Orquesta Amadeus is the country’s only authentic Afro-Cuban Orquesta Cubana, also sometimes called a Cuban Charanga Band. The Charanga style gave birth to the great Cuban rhythms and dances, the mambo and the cha cha cha evolved (now called Salsa dancing).
The roots stretch back to African tribal music and to the French and Spanish classical and folk traditions. Orquesta Amadeus strictly interprets the passionate melodies and rhythms of this music, much of which is improvised so that it is always fresh, exciting and new while authentically expressing the 1940’s and 50’s Havana style. . Playing the sound that was made famous by the Buena vista social club.
Hershal Herscher, band-leader, arranger and flautist, played piano in New York's primo Afro-Cuban bands, Orquesta Broadway and Charanga 76, during the 60s and 70s and was the recipient of the 1998 Tony Rodriguez Award for his services to Latin music".
