Wellington's premier dixieland jazz band, the Wellington City Shake-Em-On-Downers put the swing in your thing with turn-of-the-century American charm and are guaranteed to add fun, pizzazz and foot-tappin' grooves to your function, party or wedding!
The Wellington City Shake-Em-On-Downers are a hot new 6-piece band featuring trumpet, trombone, clarinet/saxophone/retro-style vocals, drums, accordion and double bass. We play a mix of New Orleans/Chicago traditional jazz, early swing and popular show tunes with an emphasis on dancing and general light-hearted fun. We have performed in many places and spaces around the Wellington region and are a popular flavour with the Full Swing dance group and Southern Cross bar. Dixieland bands are designed to play acoustic as we do, and so we are very flexible and can play basically anywhere with no need for power, though we can amplify if needed. We are enjoyed by all age groups and have an extensive and flashy wardrobe to suit all events.
